Pupil Librarians

Children in Years 5 and 6 can actively contribute to our school community by becoming Pupil Librarians.

Prospective librarians complete a short written application outlining the reasons why they are interested in

this role and are selected by our English Leader, before receiving training. They spend some of their

lunchtimes organising our school library and assisting in book selection for younger pupils. They are

extremely knowledgeable and provide valuable advice to the Senior Leadership Team about which books

are popular and should be purchased. The introduction last year of our outdoor Playground Library, saw

our Pupil Librarians also take responsibility for setting up our relaxing reading zone each lunchtime.

This is an exceptionally popular quiet area of our school site where pupils who want to can immerse

themselves in a book.

It is a rewarding role which our children value as they are able to appreciate the role of libraries:

"Libraries are like magic places. They have stories that make me happy when I feel sad. I like sitting in the quiet and reading. It makes my heart feel warm." Sultan

"Books are a way to go into a whole new world just by words and your own imagination." Elias

"Libraries help imagination flow and give children understanding of their surroundings. It also follows UNCRC Articles 28 (access to education) and 17 (access to information)." Sharleez

"Libraries are important because you can discover new stories and learn more about the world. It doesn't matter how much money you have, you're free to borrow books any time." Martha

"Libraries offer a calm and quiet environment for reading and studying." Ibraheem

"Libraries help us embrace Article 17 (right to information) and help us learn about the past and present of our world. As importantly, they make our empathy grow, so we understand other people's lives." Serenna

"Sometimes you just need some peace and quiet to sit down, relax, study and read." Love

"Libraries make learning fun and accessible for everyone." Bariyah

"People in this school want to explore the magical world and the real one. Libraries hold many books full of life lessons." Marnie

"Our library encourages people to read books and learn. We can read in a place that is quiet and safe and enjoy books." Gabriel

"I find libraries a good calming space to relax and enjoy a book. But I also believe they are a communal space for everyone in the community to enjoy, even the poor and homeless." Rose
