Pupil Librarians
Children in Years 5 and 6 can actively contribute to our school community by becoming Pupil Librarians.
Prospective librarians complete a short written application outlining the reasons why they are interested in
this role and are selected by our English Leader, before receiving training. They spend some of their
lunchtimes organising our ischool library and assisting in book selection for younger pupils. They are
extremely knowledgeable and provide valuable advice to the Senior Leadership Team about which books
are popular and should be purchased. The introduction last year of our outdoor Playground Library, saw
our Pupil Librarians also take responsibility for setting up our relaxing reading zone each lunchtime.
This is an exceptionally popular quiet area of our school site where pupils who want to can immerse
themselves in a book.
It is a rewarding role which our children are able to reflect on the value of:
“Being a librarian has taught me how to be systematic and how to take on responsibility. I really like helping the school by making the library more tidy and organised. I’ve always been a bookworm and being a librarian has helped me to show that.” Persephone
"Being a librarian is like being part of a special community; I have made good friends who I might not have connected with in the playground. I have discovered another side of myself and feel like I’m maturing and becoming more steady.” Stanley
“My favourite thing to do in the library is to help others find the right book that suits them. When I read a book I get so absorbed and I don’t hear my surroundings because of how interesting our books are!” Sofia
“I love being a librarian; it makes me feel responsible and proud. Just being with books makes me happy so it’s the perfect role for me! The library is my favourite place.” Ella
“I love the library because it’s peaceful and calm. I knew I wanted to be a librarian so I could make it an even better place.” Ishaq
“I became a librarian because books are a huge joy and being part of the team is a very special thing. I love the fact that when you sort one book you help another person find it. Our library is beautiful and diverse. It’s organised and systematic. I think it’s perfect.” Alilah.
