Attendance & Punctuality
At Godwin Junior School we passionately believe that all of our children deserve the very best education, every day of the school year. In accordance with national studies, our own school data demonstrates that there is a clear link between a child's attendance and his or her attainment and progress.
In line with Newham Local Authority policy, we do not authorise requests for holiday leave during term time. In order to help us ensure that our children achieve the very best that they are able to, all requests for holiday absence during term time will continue to be declined and parents/carers who take their child out of school for this reason may be subject to a Penalty Notice, issued by the Local Authority. This position is similar to other local schools.
From September 2015 persistent absence has been defined by the government as being above 10% i.e. the child is in school for less than 90% of the time.
