Attendance & Punctuality

At Godwin Junior School we passionately believe that all of our children deserve the very best education, every day of the school year. In accordance with national studies, our own school data demonstrates that there is a clear link between a child's attendance and his or her attainment and progress.

In line with Newham Local Authority policy, we do not authorise requests for holiday leave during term time except in very exceptional circumstances. In order to help us ensure that our children achieve the very best that they are able to, all requests for holiday absence during term time will continue to be declined unless the circumstances are truly exceptional. Parents/carers who take their child out of school during term time may be subject to a Penalty Notice, issued by the Local Authority. This position is similar to other local schools.

Term dates for the school year 2022-2023 can be found by clicking here.

If a child is unavoidably absent or late, we ask parents/carers to notify the school by email, telephone or letter. The school has a policy of 'phoning parents/carers on the first day of absence. This is to ensure that they are aware that their child has not arrived at school.

Parents/carers whose children are often absent or late may receive a letter from the Deputy Head Teacher inviting them to a meeting to discuss the situation.
